How is negligence established?

In order to establish that a defendant was negligent, and therefore should be responsible for damages incurred by you, it must be shown:

-the defendant owed a duty to use reasonable care to you;
-the defendant breached that duty by acting unreasonably, or by failing to act when the
 defendant had a duty to act;
-it was foreseeable that by acting unreasonably, the defendant would cause injury to
 you;
-the defendant’s actions or inactions caused your injury.
